Bridget and Derek Stenberg welcome you to Maelgwyn House Bed and Breakfast. Situated above a scenic viewpoint at the edge of Harlech village, Maelgwyn House commands stunning views of the Llŷn Peninsula and Tremadog Bay, the Dwyryd estuary, Morfa Harlech National Nature Reserve, Harlech Castle and the Royal St David’s golf course.
Maelgwyn House is ideally situated for exploring Snowdonia National Park, the Rhinog Mountains, the Llŷn Peninsula, Porthmadog and Portmeirion. Bridget and Derek can organise fly fishing trips to mountain lakes with an expert guide and all equipment supplied, and can also arrange nature walks, birdwatching and mushroom hunting (in season).
A choice of king-size and twin rooms, all en-suite with flat-screen TV, DVD player, and tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard. The two front rooms offer spectacular views across Tremadog Bay. WiFi available throughout.
Maelgwyn House is positioned for views — the outlook across Tremadog Bay takes in the Llŷn Peninsula stretching away to the northwest, the flat expanse of Morfa Harlech dune system in the foreground, and Harlech Castle on its rocky crag to the south. On clear days the view extends for miles across the bay, and at dawn and dusk the light on the water can be exceptional. The en-suite king-size and twin rooms are arranged to make the most of this outlook.
The house offers fly fishing and nature walks as optional extras, which reflects the character of the surrounding area — the rivers and streams running out of the Rhinog mountains hold wild brown trout, and the dune system at Morfa Harlech is a National Nature Reserve, home to a range of orchid species, wading birds, and one of the best examples of dune slack habitat in Wales. For guests with an interest in wildlife or fishing, Maelgwyn provides a base that most accommodation in the area can't match.
Harlech town centre and the castle are close by, as is Royal St David's Golf Course. The beach, accessible through the Morfa Harlech dunes, is a pleasant walk from the house. Portmeirion is roughly twenty minutes north by car, and the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog — one of the finest narrow-gauge railways in the world — is nine miles away. The address is on Ffordd Isaf, the lower road through Harlech.
