Plas Gwynfryn is a spectacular privately owned Welsh country house near Harlech, set amongst eight acres of beautifully landscaped gardens within the Snowdonia National Park. Offering pure escapism and a relaxed, intimate atmosphere — the perfect venue for weddings, house parties and special occasions.
Although very grand and stately, the house retains a wonderfully homely feel. The accommodation has been renovated to a high standard with every care taken to preserve the character of the house. Five bedrooms sleeping up to 14: three en-suite king-size rooms and two family rooms. Downstairs: a cinema/conference room, an oak-panelled lounge with wood-burner and double doors onto a south-facing veranda, a drawing room with open fire, a bar, and a kitchen complete with Aga and range cooker.
Situated near Llanbedr, with Harlech Castle, the beach, Royal St David’s Golf Course and the Ffestiniog Railway all within easy reach.
Plas Gwynfryn is an imposing Victorian country house set in extensive grounds near Llanbedr, a village on the A496 coast road between Harlech and Barmouth. The house offers bed and breakfast alongside self-catering accommodation, giving visitors flexibility depending on how long they're staying and what kind of experience they're looking for. The grounds provide a peaceful setting away from the road, with mountain and coastal views making the most of the position between the Rhinog mountains and the sea.
Llanbedr is a quiet, working Welsh village with its own church and pub, and the character of the area is noticeably different from the more tourist-focused Harlech a few miles north. Shell Island (Mochras) — one of the most remarkable natural sites in Wales, with over 200 shell varieties and colonies of grey seals — is accessible from Llanbedr via the causeway road at low tide. The village also has its own small airfield, used by light aircraft and a popular viewpoint for aviation enthusiasts.
Harlech and its castle are four miles north, with Royal St David's Golf Course nearby. Barmouth, with its Victorian pier and Mawddach Estuary railway bridge, is seven miles south. The Rhinog mountains rise directly to the east of the property — less visited than Snowdon and the popular Eryri peaks, the Rhinogs offer wild, challenging walking through genuinely remote terrain. Plas Gwynfryn is also available as a wedding venue, with the grounds providing space for outdoor ceremonies and receptions.
