Gwrach Ynys Country Guest House

Country guest house in Talsarnau — the perfect base for walking North Wales

Country Guest House

Gwynfor and Deborah Williams welcome you to Gwrach Ynys, a beautiful country guest house in Talsarnau, near Harlech. Set in spectacular North Wales countryside, it is an ideal base for exploring the area.

The surrounding area offers a remarkable range of walks — stiff climbs to gentle rambles, coastal strolls to woodland trails — something to suit all tastes. With Harlech Castle, Portmeirion, the Ffestiniog Railway and the beaches of Cardigan Bay all within easy reach, there is no shortage of things to see and do.

Staying at Gwrach Ynys Country Guest House

Gwrach Ynys Country Guest House is run by Gwynfor and Deborah Williams from their property in Talsarnau, a village north of Harlech on the Cardigan Bay coast. The guest house has built a strong reputation among returning visitors — particularly walkers — for the quality of its welcome and the convenience of its position for exploring this part of Gwynedd. Mountain, coastal, and woodland trails are accessible directly from the house without needing to drive to a starting point.

The surrounding area is exceptionally varied for outdoor visitors. The Rhinog mountains, rising to the east, offer some of the wildest and least-visited walking in Wales — the terrain is rough, pathless in places, and rewarding for those with experience and navigation skills. The Dwyryd Estuary, a few minutes away, provides coastal walking with wading birds, grey herons, and occasional ospreys. The woodland walks around Talsarnau connect the upland and coastal landscapes in a way that makes the area feel larger and more diverse than its geography might suggest.

Harlech, with its castle, golf course, and beach, is three miles south — an easy drive or a pleasant cycle along the coast road. Portmeirion, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis's celebrated Italianate village, is six miles north and highly recommended for a half-day visit. The Ffestiniog Railway terminus at Porthmadog is nine miles away, offering one of the finest narrow-gauge steam railway journeys in Wales through spectacular Snowdonia scenery to Blaenau Ffestiniog.
